Eyelash Extension Style Chart: Lengths, Curls & Thickness
To help you choose the right lash style for your clients, it can be helpful to use an eyelash extension style chart. These charts typically display the different curl, diameter, and length options, along with a visual representation of how they will look when applied.
As a lash artist, it is important to be aware that different brands of lash extensions may have variations in curl, length, and diameter, even if they are labelled as being the same.
For example, one brand's "0.15mm" diameter lashes may actually be slightly thicker or thinner than another brand's "0.15mm" lashes. Similarly, one brand's "8 mm" length lashes may be slightly shorter or longer than another brand's "8 mm" lashes. These small differences can add up and impact the overall look of the lash extensions.
So, in this article, we will guide you on how to apply different lash styles to your client depending on lash curl, diameter, and length. Also, we would provide eyelash extension style charts.
Types of eyelash extensions
Eyelash extensions are individual strands of PBT fibre, silk, faux mink, or real mink. But mainly all lash extensions made from PBT fibre are animal friendly. The type of material used for the extensions can affect the look and feel of the lashes.
PBT fibre lashes are made from PBT fibre, and tend to be the most affordable type of extension. They are also the most common type of extension and are available in a variety of lengths, thicknesses, and curls. Eyelash extensions lashes tend to have a more artificial look and feel, but they are also durable and can hold their shape well.
Silk lashes. Faux mink and silk are both made from Polybutylene Terephthalate, or PBT. That being said, you should not let the various names fool you; they have nothing to do with the materials used to create them. They have a specific density, form, and surface treatment. The silk lashes by Flawless Lashes are incredibly feathery and realistic looking because of their semi-matte finish.
Faux mink. When compared to other types of eyelash extensions, faux mink lashes are noticeably thinner; as a result, they are typically included in sets meant to add volume. Each individual lash is up to 30% lighter than other branded mink eyelash extensions thanks to their tapered design, which extends for most of the lash's body.
Mink lashes are popular. The oldest, too. Because they are not already curly, you would need to perm them before you apply the extensions, and then you would need to continue curling them for as long as you wore them.
Lash curl chart
We have compiled a visual comparison chart of eyelash curl options to help you make an informed decision and achieve the look you desire for your clients.
Eyelash extension curl types
It's important to consider the desired end result of the design when selecting the curl of your clients’ natural lash curl and eye shape, as the wrong curl can result in a look that is not quite what you had in mind. You can get the best results from your eyelash extensions by choosing the right curl for your desired look and style.
The type of lash curl that is most suitable for a client depends on the natural curl of their lashes and the desired look. Here is a breakdown of when to use certain lash curls:
- B curl: This curl is one of the weakest curls, it's almost straight! It's suitable for male clients or used nova days for eyeliner styling.
- C-curl: This curl has a slight curve and is a good choice for clients with straight or slightly curved natural lashes. It can create a subtle, natural-looking lift.
- CC-curl: This curl is similar to the C-curl, but with a slightly more pronounced curve. It is a good choice for clients with straight or slightly curved natural lashes who want a slightly more dramatic lift.
- D-curl: This curl has a more dramatic curve and is a good choice for clients with straight or slightly curved natural lashes who want a very dramatic lift.
- M-curl: M lashes have a straight base that is not too long and transitions into a strong curve without a kink. Instead of the abrupt change seen in eyelashes like L and L +, M has a lovely, gradual one. The gorgeously elevating effect it produces is thanks to the dramatic, but not excessively curled, bend it adopts. It’s suitable almost to every client, but not suitable for Super curly natural lashes. best for lashes growing downwards.
- L-curl: L or L+ curl is best for straight or downwards growing natural lashes. Most popular for Asian eyes.
Lash lengths chart
With so many lengths to choose from, it can be overwhelming to decide which one is right for your client. That's where our lash length chart comes in.
What is the perfect lash length?
The most popular lash extension lengths are generally considered to be 8mm - 12mm, as they tend to give a more natural and subtle look.
10mm and 11mm are also popular lengths and can give a more dramatic and voluminous look. These lengths are good for those with longer natural lashes or who want a more glam and bold appearance.
12mm and longer lengths are generally considered to be more dramatic and may not be suitable for everyday wear. They may be more appropriate for special occasions or for those who want a very bold and dramatic look.
Russian volume lash extensions are a type of eyelash extension that involves attaching multiple, thin extensions to each individual natural lash. These extensions come in various lengths, with the most popular being 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 mm. If your natural lash length allows, popular dramatic lengths are 12mm-13mm. But if the natural lashes are very long, it may be necessary to choose shorter extensions in order to avoid overloading the lashes and causing them to become too heavy or damaged.
On the other hand, for classic lash extensions (which involve attaching a single extension to each natural lash), it's generally recommended to choose extensions that are 1-2 mm longer than the natural lashes. This will help to create a more dramatic, full look without weighing down the natural lashes.
Of course, the best lash extension length for your client will depend on your individual preferences and desired look. It may be helpful to try out different lengths and see what works best for your clients. Some people may prefer shorter lengths for a more natural look, while others may want longer lengths for a more glam and bold appearance. It's all a matter of personal preference.
Lash extension thickness chart
A lash extension thickness chart is a visual guide that helps lash artists and clients understand the various thicknesses available for eyelash extensions. The chart can be helpful in understanding the different options and determining the best thickness for a particular look or to suit the natural lashes.
How To Choose The Right Lash Thickness
Choosing the right thickness for your lash extensions is an important factor in achieving the desired look and ensuring the health and longevity of your lashes. Whether you prefer classic or volume lash extensions, there are a few key considerations to keep in mind when selecting the thickness of your extensions.
For classic lash extensions, the ideal thickness is typically around 0.10- 0.15 flat lashes. This thickness is thin enough to be comfortable and natural-looking while still providing enough volume to create a full and dramatic effect. If you prefer a more subtle look, you may want to choose a thinner extension, while if you want a more dramatic, bold look, you may want to opt for a slightly thicker extension.
When it comes to volume lashes, the ideal thickness can vary depending on the desired look and the strength and thickness of your client’s natural lashes. In general, it's best to choose extensions that are slightly thicker than your client’s natural lashes, but not so thick that they become too heavy or damage the natural lashes. For a more natural, subtle look, a thickness of 0.07–0.10 mm is usually ideal.
Dramatic thick eyelash extensions
These can be a great way to create a bold, eye-catching look. However, it's important to be careful when choosing very thick extensions, as they can be heavy and damaging to the natural lashes if not applied properly. When choosing thick extensions, you should also think about how strong and thick your client’s natural lashes are. They may not be right for everyone.
Ideal lash thickness for volume lashes
Flawless Lashes by Loreta is a TOP award-winning lash brand, and the Academy stands for healthy and safe lashes! We stopped selling 0.20-thick lashes a few years ago, but other brands continue to do so, and some even sell ridiculously thick lashes like 0.25 thickness or diameter. Use 0.10 or 0.12 thickness for classic lashes, or even 0.07 if the client's natural lashes are extremely thin. For volume, use 0.07 or 0.06 diameter for 2D–3D; for more than 3D up to 5D, use 0.05, 0.04, or 0.03 diameter.
