What are Semi Permanent Eyelashes?

Often referred to as individual lash extensions, semi-permanent eyelashes are lash extensions that are applied directly onto your existing eyelashes. This is different to strip lashes. These are easily applied and removed without the need for an eyelash expert to be present.

See our range of lash extensions here.

Semi permanent eyelashes

With semi permanant eyelashes, just one individual lash is applied to one natural lash. The glue that is used to adhere the fake lash to the real one has been specially formulated, so it does not damage the lash or irritate your eyes. It is possible that you could be allergic to a specific glue, but there are different glues available to counter this problem.

How Long do Semi-Permanent Lashes Take to Apply?

The process of having semi-permanent eyelashes applied is a very labour-intensive and intricate, given, as outlined above, that the lash technician needs to apply an individual extension to each natural lash. In general, it takes at least two hours to complete the application of a full set of lashes.

Important Note, You Need to Take it Easy For 12-24 hours After Application

Although it only takes around 2 hours to complete the application process, you need to also factor in the time the glue takes to dry. Typically, adhesives used with lash extensions can take around 12 to 24 hours to dry properly, depending on the glue your lash specialist used.

That is of course unless if you use our new Glue Instant Cure. This allows same day moisture due to the speed in which the glue dries.

How Long do Semi Permanent Lashes Last For?

Synthetic lash extensions will last the same amount of time as a full-growth cycle of real lashes, meaning semi permanent lashes last roughly between 6 and 8 weeks. However, you need to bear in mind that as we all have slightly different lash growth cycles, you may need to have some light lash work done as often as every three to four weeks.

Will They Damage Your Natural Lashes?

There is a huge misconception that people have about semi-permanent lashes, that they will damage your real lashes. The simple truth though is that they won’t. If they have been applied by a professional or a skilled lash technician, they will not damage or adversely effect your natural lashes.

You do have to be careful that you don’t pull or tug on too much as that can cause lashes to come out and could cause damage.

How Do You Remove Semi Permanent Lashes?

Although they will fall out eventually as your natural lashes go through their growth cycle, you may still need to remove them. Perhaps you want a change of style or look. Although it may be tempting to start pulling them out, this could cause unnecessary damage to your real lashes underneath. So, it is best to avoid doing that. Where possible, the safest way to remove semi perm eyelashes that will also protect your natural lashes, is to go to the salon where you had them applied and have them removed by an expert lash technician, as they need to be carefully removed one by one.

Tips for Making Semi Perm Lashes Last Longer

We’ve already mentioned that you should avoid contact with water and anything too strenuous. There are other things you can do though to ensure they last as long as possible. This includes:

  • Using oil-free products – Invest in oil-free facial and eye cleansers as the oils often affect the adhesive bond of the glue.

  • Brush your eyelashes regularly – Although you may be nervous about touching them too much, it is a good idea to take a mascara brush and brush them first thing in the morning and last thing at night too help ensure they look right and stay in the right place.

  • Sleep on your back – This may not be possible, or at the very least, very difficult if you are used to sleeping on your belly. However, if you really want to get as much life out of your lashes you need to avoid sleeping in any way that your face is flat against the sheets or pillow. The pressure placed on your lashes sleeping this way can force them to come out far too soon.

  • Top them up regularly – We’ve mentioned this before, but it bears repeating. Even if you are incredibly careful with your lashes, some of them will fall out over time. Therefore, the only way to ensure you have that fuller and glamorous look is by making regular appointments for infills.

Now you know more about semi-permanent lashes, how long they last and how to take care of them, we hope you are convinced enough to give them a try. We’re sure you won’t regret it. One warning though, once you start, you’ll find it hard to stop.
